2026-07-08 | Caterina Pecchioli: working on the project at Textile Lab in Tilburg

This week, our fellow Caterina Pecchioli has been at TextilelLab in Tilburg, where she is working on her project 2749 Social Cartography: The Photo Archive of Decolonial Ecology. Here's a sneak peek at the textile development process before the final work is presented at the Depot of the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in September (17th-20th September).

The project investigates photography as a living, participatory archive. It critically examines human and non-human relationships across different cultures, exploring the interdependence between environmental crisis and collective memory, highlighting the intersections between histories of colonialism and contemporary ecological challenges. Through an interdisciplinary approach that combines photography, science, and ecology, it aims to foster a dialogue on environmental transformations, featuring decolonial visions and knowledge, and imagining alternative ecological perspectives.

The textile work is developed in close collaboration with master weaver Stef Miero of Tilburg’s TextielLab and with the collaboration of Amy Diaz-Newman.

“2749 Social Cartography: The Photo Archive of Decolonial Ecology” is a project by Caterina Pecchioli.

The artist will be in residency at the Thami Mnyele Foundation studio in September to prepare the Depot presentation installation of the project curated by Alessandra Saviotti.

The research project is supported by Strategia Fotografia 2025, promoted by the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture.
